Bathurst Health Foods has been in operation continuously in George St since 1956. It has had only a handful of owners between 1956 and now. The store is one of (if not the) oldest business still trading in George St.
On the 1st of October 2015 the store came under the ownership of Shea and Xanthe Peterson. Their passion for the Health Food Industry knows no bounds. They collectively have a lived experience as health food consumers, and natural health practitioners of over 40 years. They are passionate about independent health food retail and maintaining the integrity of a market for consumers that is seeing unprecedented growth in Australia.
Bathurst Health Foods entire staff are trained practitioners with a wealth of knowledge. Their focus is about sharing knowledge, recipes and ideas. They cater to people from all walks of life and all stages of life. Their passion for healthy living drives their belief that being available to help customers navigate a fast growing and ever changing natural health landscape is not just a nice to have, but a necessity.
They have their finger on the pulse when it comes to consumer needs and new and exciting product offerings never slip by them. ABOUT THE OWNERS
Shea Peterson brings 20 years experience of health food retail management to the store. He was born in Colorado USA. He has managed large health food supermarkets in Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, California, Hawaii and more recently in Sydney. Shea is an Ayurvedic practitioner having completed his training at the Ayurvedic institute of New Mexico and also in India. He has worked extensively as an Ayurvedic practitioner in New Mexico and California. He fell in love with Bathurst the first time Xanthe brought him here and was thrilled when the decision to move here permanently was made.
Xanthe Peterson was raised in Bathurst and after 20 years away came home with her husband and children. She was thrilled to have the opportunity to reinvigorate Bathurst Health Foods. She remembers the store well as she would often purchase her trail mixes and banana chips there in the 70’s and 80’s. She remembers fondly the strong aromas of spices and herbs of the the store from that time. Xanthe has always had a keen interest in health foods. She studied Naturopathy, Traditional Chinese Medicine theory, Western herbal medicine, yoga, massage and food medicine.She ran a successful practice in the eastern suburbs of Sydney for 15 years. She has worked with corporate organisations, entire families, professional athletes and performing artists.
Shea and Xanthe have a passion for natural living. They look forward to the years ahead and to continuing the stores long and successful history, contributing to the health and well-being of the local community, and to meeting you all in person.
